The Cowes Torquay  Cowes & the Cowes Classic Powerboat Races 2009

Following the great success of these two races in August of 2008, the BPRC fully intend to expand on this success in 2009 by inviting other racing fleets including OCR, Honda and Class 3 to join us in this great weekend of Powerboat Racing.

The Cowes – Torquay – Cowes race will be run on the weekend of the 28th, 29th & 30th August 2009. This is a non stop race and is for mono hulls only. It is hoped that we can revert to the original format of all boats crossing Lyme Bay direct and the same on the return after looping around Torquay Bay. This is the more traditional format followed by Tim Powell who organised this great race for some twenty odd years. The Lyme Bay crossing can be formidable but adds to the challenge of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes for which it is world renown.

The “Cowes Classic” is for race boats that do not have the fuel range for the CTC but who also wish to be part of this great weekend and to face a challenge of their own. This will include two laps of Poole Bay before returning to Cowes, a total distance of some 75 miles.

These two great races have been a proving ground for the last 50 years for both boat designers and builders and there is no reason for this not to continue besides being the supreme test for all powerboat racers.

Long live the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes and the Cowes Classic!
